Can you believe it is only 5 week till Christmas?! I have been working on this embroidery design for a few months now, so it feels like Christmas is already here for the past few months 🙂 I have to say I have never celebrated Christmas. Shocking news! Yes. I am actually Jewish, living in Tel Aviv. So my holiday is Hanukah! But Christmas always looked magical to me. And all those presents, right?! So this year I’m discovering Christmas. I’m trying to learn more about this holiday and about the traditional, the songs, the stories… so I set down while listening to Christmas songs playlist on Apple music, and started to draw whatever Christmas felt like to me. And this is how this embroidery designs for Christmas was born. Did I capture the essence of Christmas? I hope I did.
I made this design as an embroidery kit so you could give it as a Christmas gift for a crafty friend or embroider this pattern as a handmade gift for Christmas. I believe handmade items are such meaningful gifts. To gift someone with something you put so much love in it is beautiful and shows a lot. It could also be a personalized gift if you add a name or custom text. This would be a special Christmas gifts for my sister, if we would celebrate Christmas 🙂
In the kit you will have all you need to begin a new embroidery such as embroidery hoop, needle, thread, printed linen fabric and instructions, all wrapped in a handmade felt cover bag. You can check out more embroidery gift ideas here. But back to this embroidery design. I want to share with you how I embroider this DIY Christmas tree. Start by watching this video tutorial:
How to embroider
This design mainly required back stitch and French knots. I also teach a fun leaf stitching technique, you can learn all about it in the pattern tutorial. Yes, with every embroidery kit or PDF pattern you will get a stitching guide and basic stitches tutorial to help you with your project.
We will start by stitching the trees. I used back stitch for the branches and also added snow with long white stitches. And to add more joy and sparkle to my embroidery I added golden French knots as ornaments.
Add some snow
Than continue to the snow features. I added white French knots as small snowflakes and embroider the bigger snowflakes using back stitch according to the embroidery pattern. I love the snow addition, it is white so you don’t see it much, but it gives a natural delicate addition to the whole embroidery.
I love this one! It gives colors and more seasonal nature to the embroidery, don’t you think?! I used 4 colors to create this part because I wanted it to be more vibrant. So the stalk is back stitch, the flowers are French knots, the leaves are a special technique (watch the video!) and I also added extra decoration with lazy daisy stitches. Fun! So much to learn and to practice in this pattern!
