This topic is one of my popular videos on my YouTube channel so I thought you might enjoy more tips about letters embroidery. You can watch how to embroider letters here and then keep reading more about different kinds of letters, how to fill out letters with hand embroidery and how to create embroidery wall art with initials.
Simple lettering stitches
This is such a useful stitch! We use it do define shapes and outlines, such as letters. If you have letters with a lot of curves I would recommend doing small stitches, and if you have kind of a boxy letters you can use long stitches and save time and effort. This stich will look great on letters and add a sophisticated vibe to your art. You will have to use small stitches, smaller than ½ inch, so it will also look good with letters that have curves. Learn how to do a split stitch here and watch this video:
This is your answer for dots! I like to add little dots for letters like i and j. French knot is really cute and will form a perfect dot. Learn how to do a French knot here and watch this video:
How to fill in letters embroidery
In order to fill out letters with hand embroidery you will use satin stitch as you use to fill out any other shape. You can just fill out the letter from right to left or give the stitch an angle to create an interesting shape for each letter. I don’t have a video for that yet, so let me know in the comments if I should make one 🙂
How to embroider your own handwriting
In my embroidery patterns and in most PDF embroidery patterns you will get the letters already printed. But what if you are creating your own embroidery design and want to add your own hand writing? If you are confident with your hand writing, you should get the fabric and just drew the words directly on it, using a pen or pencil. If you think you might need a little practice first drew the words on paper and transfer the design to fabric like I showed on this post. Then use whatever stitch you liked from the list and go for it!
Floral initials embroidery
Letters can be used in embroidery in different ways, like in my floral initials collection. I used the letter as the shape and added flowers around the outline so you really embroider the flowers and leaves which create the letter.
